Technical Writer The role: Technical Writer Due to growth in our Products division, Blackbaud is searching for technical writers to join our team in our Charleston, SC headquarters. In this role, you will have the opportunity to create customer-centered user assistance content that enhances the user experience and adds value to our software products. You will evaluate and implement feedback about user assistance content as well as respond quickly and diplomatically to the source of the feedback. You will successfully work on multiple projects with concurrent and shifting deadlines while producing work that meets the standards of both Blackbaud and our clients. You will have the chance to research and learn new technologies as required by the products you document and the tools and methodologies used to create user assistance content. You will interact with Subject Matter Experts to efficiently gather information with the goal of becoming an expert on the products you document. You will also work closely with other team members and show initiative in improving overall documentation content and processes. During the first six months you will:

Learn and research Blackbaud software to gain an in-depth knowledge of our products. This knowledge should be gained through self-development, direct exploration, job shadowing, tutorials, and online and instructor-led seminars and trainings.
Learn about our clients through usability studies, client visits, observing Support calls, and by reviewing feedback from internal groups that work closely with clients on a daily basis, including Support and Consulting.

Expand technical writing knowledge to include our tools and processes by learning from a mentor, the documentation team, tutorials, and a variety of other training opportunities .
The team: Documentation – Products Division This position reports to the Documentation Manager. You will be a member of a cross functional, high performing matrix team consisting of Software Engineers, Quality Assurance Analysts, Technical Writers, Business System Analysts, and a Program Manager. Background and Experience The person selected for this position should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business communications or a related field. The candidate should have strong writing abilities, editing skills, and attention to detail. The individual should also have an enthusiastic work ethic, passion for technology, and the discipline to manage multiple tasks. Experience using technical writing tools and workflows are ideal. Experience working in a software production environment is a plus.
